Every small town has its claim to fame.  Founded in Newark in 1872 was the World Famous Jackson & Perkins Company, rose growers. Their 17 acre Rose Garden was a popular visitor attraction from 1947 to 1966. Newark was known as the Direct-Selling Capital of the World, and home of the C.H. Stuart Co,. a conglomerate of nursery products, home products, china, silverware and eventually their jewelry division, Sarah Coventry Inc.

In 1903, two young men, R.A.S. and C.T. Bloomer founded the Bloomer Bros. Paper Co., producing parerboard for such uses as
egg cartons and ice cream containers. Their company was known and respected  the world over, as they designed and
manufactured their own machinery.

In 1905, S.H. Mora left a secure postion at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester to found the Mora Motor Car Company in Newark.
He produced medium and high priced cars from 1906-1911, as well as a childrens car, the Browniekar. His massive brick plant
still exists and is home to the 111 year old  Hallagan Manufacturing Co. manufacturers of high end upholstered furniture, sold
only in the best stores.  Relive these companies by visiting the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society Museum, at 120 High
Street, a quick walk from the canal.
